Thank Goodness They’re Over……The Elections!

Corzine - Christie - Daggett

My daily routine, upon waking up, typically starts with a half hour of work out on my exercise bicycle while listening to the news. I like to think I am maximizing the use of my time! The problem I have had for quite some time now, however, were the annoying interruptions disguised as commercials by the political candidates who threw an incredible amount of mud at each other. Fortunately it’s that time again when everyone can take a good bath and clean up their act.

So it was one thing to watch and listen to the political propaganda. Then I believe it was for about the last two weeks that I was getting inundated at home by telephone calls from politicians and their supporters at all levels of government. I hope he doesn’t hold it against me but I actually had to hang up on President Obama since he really caught me at the wrong time, Dancing with the Stars was on! I even got a call election night fifteen minutes before the polls closed from a candidate imploring me if I hadn’t voted to get out and cast my ballot. At that point given the logistics of the polling location I looked out my driveway window to see if a helicopter was prepared to whisk me away.

As a registered securities representative in the investment arena I am well aware of the fact that consumers have the ability to have their phone number listed on what is referred to as a Do Not Call List by a broker dealer firm that has received such a request. For that matter we all have the ability to register our telephone number with a national registry to avoid receiving those annoying telemarketing calls. So here is my question…where can I call to stop receiving those truly aggravating phone calls from all these politicians? It seems to me that since I have choices in other areas I should be allowed to have a choice in this matter also. I assume this is an issue that has to be legislated in Washington and I would love to hear their comments on my proposal!
